What will Pu do?

Remember the 2006 Kansas City game when the Steelers' favorite safety had his hair grabbed and was thrown to the ground (courtesy of Larry Johnson) after an interception against the Chiefs? Next Monday, NFL owners will consider a hair length proposal to ban players from having long hair that lands outside their helmets and below their names on the back of their jerseys.

Well, in a bit of ironic turn, the long hair ban is being proposed by Kansas City. Under the terms of the proposal, players would not have to cut their hair but simply tuck their hair inside their helmets.

No word from Pu or the Steelers' organization.

Wilson released following arrest

The Steelers have released veteran WR Cedrick Wilson in the wake of Wilson's arrest for assault, harassment and disorderly conduct on Wednesday night. Considering that Wilson has been involved in at least one other unflattering incident since joining the team, coupled with the fact that he is entering the last year of his contract, it's no surprise that Rooney & Co. decided to part ways with him. However, the move leaves the team very thin at wide receiver, with Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Nate Washington the only proven wideouts still on the roster.

Steelers to play Bills in Toronto

Pittsburgh will play its second preseason game of the 2008 campaign against the Buffalo Bills at Toronto's Rogers Centre, home of MLB's Toronto Blue Jays. Opponents for games 1, 3 and 4 have yet to be announced.

Mike @ William & Mary

Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin will deliver the commencement address at his alma mater, the College of William and Mary, on May 11. Tomlin will also receive an honory doctorate of humane letters during the commencement ceremony.

Steelers add LB Fox

Yesterday the Steelers signed unrestricted free-agent Keyaron Fox (Kansas City) to bolster the team's depth at linebacker. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fox signed a one-year contract for the veteran minimum of $605,000. The four-year vet received a signing bonus of $40,000.

Roethlisberger signs extension

I'm surprised the Steelers and franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger came to an agreement on a contract extension so quickly. According to sources, Big Ben's new contract is for eight years and $102 million, including a $25.2 million signing bonus and approximately $36 million in guaranteed money.

Faneca to the Jets

For Alan Faneca it was all about the money. And now he'll have more money than ever after agreeing to a five-year, $40 million contract with the New York Jets that includes $21 million guaranteed. Although many fans probably don't agree with me I think the Steelers were wise to let Faneca go, even though the team may experience a significant drop-off at his position in 2008. I can eaily envision a scenario where Faneca's play declines dramatically just a year or two down the road, or he decides to retire prematurely (leaving New York with a lot of "dead money" counting against its salary cap).
